Bridgton Planning Board - MEH Hold 'Site Walk' of Proposed 'Hotel Bridgton'

BRIDGTON, Maine - April 21, 2018 - Seemingly surrounded by signs of citizen protest, the Bridgton Planning Board and MEH company officials accompanied by 50 or 60 concerned Bridgton citizens participated in a site walk of the property that is being earmarked for development by Justin McIver of Main Eco Home.

Mr. McIver has said that he is passionate and very driven to make Bridgton(his hometown) 'the best it can be.' He views the construction of a hotel as another major part of reshaping of Bridgton and a good way to help the town prosper.

Others disagree. Laura Cleveland, whose opinion appears to be in the majority among Bridgton residents, stated in the Bridgton News, ''Suddenly, the quiet neighborhood with a small daytime business on Bacon Street may turn into a 24-hour business with car traffic, deliveries and trash removal…These quiet streets, home to families and elders, will be disrupted by noise, lights and traffic…I am a Bridgton taxpayer and understand the need to increase the tax base and create jobs…I value the small town that is Bridgton…I believe the development of the 'Bridgton Hotel' in its proposed location will be at the expense of the town, disrupting the harmony of the downtown residential neighborhood and town beach we all enjoy.''

Many people at today's walk around were overheard saying that the the Kennard Street site is just the 'wrong place' for the proposed hotel and others added that 'out by Paris Farmers on 302 would be much better suited for this large a project'.

The planning board strongly encourages Bridgton residents to participate by coming to the next public hearing, which will be held on Wednesday, April 25 at 6 p.m.
